There are many different associations for Animal Physiotherapy, so understanding which is the right association for you, can be confusing.
How can you differentiate between each association? You want to be safe in the knowledge that the members have the correct qualifications, are passionate about the welfare of animals and are properly regulated.

Highly Qualified Individuals
The education of NAVP’s members is of the highest calibre.
To become a member, you must have a minimum of an undergraduate Honours degree in veterinary physiotherapy. We don’t accept any of the diploma qualifications, as we want our members to be as academically robust as possible.
Additionally, members must fulfil further requirements such as CPD, so they continually improve their knowledge and skillsets. It is imperative our members are learning year on year and continuing to commit to their profession. This combination means that our members have gone through rigorous training, reassuring our clients that we work to the highest standards.
Our members are incredibly diverse but what unites all of them is the common theme of professionalism, education, continued experience and professional development.

Passionate About Animal Welfare
The vast majority of our members have worked directly in animal veterinary physiotherapy from the outset, rather than transferring from working on humans initially. This underlines our passion for working with animals.
Our clients recognise that there are huge benefits to working with experts who are animal led and fully focused on animal welfare.
The training our members have received has given them a deep physiological understanding, as well as evidence-based clinical reasoning, setting NAVP apart. The veterinary physiotherapy care our members deliver, the techniques and equipment they utilise are evidence-based.
Vets and owners can choose our members knowing there is an in-depth knowledge of how each technique and modality works, the impacts on the musculoskeletal system and the clinical reasoning behind those results.

NAVP Veterinary Physiotherapists are passionate about animal welfare. Many of our members are actively involved in the industry beyond their role as a Veterinary Physiotherapist, bringing a vast amount of expertise and knowledge to help with clinical reasoning.

Category One and Two Memberships
Introducing category one and two memberships is incredibly effective in regulating our own members. This ensures our newly qualified veterinary physiotherapists are practicing to the correct standard from the start of their career.
A newly qualified member can join NAVP at category two status, and after a year apply to advance to category one. To achieve this, they must produce a letter of recommendation from a vet they work with and two case studies for the Association to assess. This must include case histories, assessment details, physiotherapy care plans and a reflection on the outcome of the cases.
Our process ensures new NAVP veterinary physiotherapists - some of whom may be working independently - have their skill levels reinforced as much as someone who is working alongside experienced veterinary physiotherapists and/or veterinarians in a clinic set-up.
We offer a support network where members can discuss their assessment process and clinical reasoning, ensuring that standards are maintained across our membership.

Regulation and Discipline
NAVP members have the equivalent level of qualification as an ACPAT member, or indeed anybody in an equivalent human healthcare setting.
All of our members are bound by a code of conduct and insured. Like all the animal therapy associations we encourage our members to choose to be voluntarily regulated with one of the registers – RAMP (Register of Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners) or AHPR (Animal Health Professions Register).
This level of regulation allied to robust educational requirements and the commitment to CPD, means our members are in the best place possible to serve vets and owners.
